Trinity - Where God's Grace is Shared.

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church

Our Gothic Sanctuary.

Mission. As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we are called to reach out to persons with the Gospel, to nourish individual and corporate faith through word and sacrament, learning and fellowship, and to express Christ's love in meeting human need. In fulfillment of this calling we commit ourselves to action.

Word and Sacrament. Trinity Lutheran offers a musically rich, liturgical worship experience. We celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday and on many festivals throughout the year, in accordance with the ELCA statement The Use of the Means of Grace.  We are a member of the Metropolitan New York Synod.

Sunday Worship

Welcome  Our history of servanthood on Staten Island covers nearly 150 years.  We hope that this website will familiarize you with our ministry past and present.

We hope that you will not only learn to know us here but, that your will join us in  Word and Sacrament each Sunday as we celebrate Jesus'  victory over the grave.  Come and visit, join us as we seek to share the news of God's victory and the grace and love it brings to our lives.

1856: Trinity was founded in October of 1856.
1865: The congregation acquired four building lots at the corner of Beach Street and, what is now, St. Paul’s Avenue.  Shortly thereafter the Unitarian Church building on Richmond Turnpike was purchased and moved to the lots owned by the congregation.  That building, pictured here, served the needs of Trinity until 1913.
1907: Trinity called as its pastor The Reverend Dr. Frederic Sutter.
1913: Construction began on the present gothic sanctuary.
1954: The 53 rank Casavant Frères organ was installed and dedicated.
1964: Pastor Carl Sutter succeeded his father Frederic.  Trinity Lutheran School building was completed.
2001: The Reverend Richard F. Michael. Pastor Michael began his service at Trinity in February of 2001 and leads us into the 21st century as a growing, thriving, almost 150 year old, diverse part of the family of God.
2006: Our October 8, 2006 150th Anniversary.
